About our organisation...

WHO ARE WE?

Dawlish Action for Youth is a local charity, formed nearly 10 years ago in December 1997. Our aims are to provide recreational, leisure and educational facilities for young people between the ages of 11 and 19.

Our Organisation is run by a small management committee of eight local people who are the Trustees of the charity. Devon Youth Service and Dawlish Town Council are both represented on the committee.

Every year in June we hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM) which is open to everyone, this is where we show our progress over the last year on projects we are working on and provide reports on our year's work.

WHAT DO WE DO?

For the past seven years, we have operated 'Youth-Topia', which is a small, safe supervised youth centre for young people aged betwen 11 and 19.

We employ our own staff, supported by qualified youth workers from Devon Youth Service and other professionals, as well as volunteers, all of whom are CRB checked.

Youth-Topia offers a wide range of facilities on weekday nights and some afternoons, attracting nearly 200 young people each week. Services include:

  • Information and advice drop-in, with mentoring sessions.
  • Relationship building, and opportunities to get together socially.
  • Drop-in for 16+ young people not in education training or employment.
  • Connexions sessions for unemployed young people.
  • Specfic sessions targeting young people with drugs or drinks problems.
  • Trips to facilities out of Dawlish.
